Renewing our Energy Paradigm:

We are in the midst of a significant global energy situation caused by steadily increasing demand, and competition for fixed resources. Economic expansion causes growth in energy demand. In times of economic duress, global energy use continues to grow, though at a slower rate, while matching demand with capacity is critical for economic recovery and continued economic expansion.

Energy use is the largest contributor to climate change. Dirty fuel sources will continue to be used as long as consumption continues to increase. Coal remains our nation’s primary fuel source for electricity generation. Renewable energy sources such as Solar and Wind are helping to fill the supply-demand gap, though are not replacing these carbon intensive sources.

Efficiency is the first and foremost solution to energy shortage and climate change. Taking all the numbers into consideration, CO2 emissions can not be reduced to sustainable levels without a tremendous increase in efficiency. While our nation is making great strides with our new buildings through the use of new technologies and innovative engineering and design; the majority of the built environment and the majority of our energy problems already exist. Existing homes are one of the most overlooked segments of energy use; a segment for which a clear solution has not been presented.

A culmination of highly effective methods to reduce overall energy consumption, cost and carbon footprint are achievable through the right applications. Most consumers are completely detached from their energy footprint and energy use must be understood before the formulation of intelligent solutions. By measuring use, increasing awareness through accessible energy information and analysis, adding intelligent control mechanisms, and multi-node coordination, we can understand, plan for, and implement a platform to create the most efficient system possible.

The EOS, short for Energy Optimization System is the first of a family of smart devices which serve as a framework and supporting backbone for these functions. Parkblocks technologies are packaged to facilitate the evolution of future technologies and practices and we endeavor to apply them in renewing our energy paradigm.
